Or why not a Pop Art inspired makeup job? You know like the multi-colored Marilyn Monroes? It wouldn’t have been too difficult and it would’ve added an artistic direction the made-for-them cans didn’t offer.

I dunno - I’m remembering quite a bit of criticism of the Legacy format back in AS2, where there was similar complaint that the lipsyncs seemed lower energy than in a normal season.
I’m thinking that we have examples of queens in the past being able to command attention while looking naturally effortless doing it - say, Latrice’s ‘You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman)‘. Contrast that to the desperation ballet that Milan put up against it, which fortunately, Trixie’s effort never quite reached.
For sure. I think Trixie has more experience branding products and working with a graphic designer than some of the other queens do, though. At the end of the day, it’s not something they’re typically challenged to do, so less experienced branding queens might rely on someone else more where their vision takes over…
To me, the soup can bit was something they clearly sat down with a graphic designer and had them make for them with some guidance or based on a sketch, and adding that layer of a creative person between them made it less interesting. I don’t think it would look great if they made the cans themselves, but it was just…
Aja’s look was attractive and stylish, but the judges were right that the visual referents were off-the-mark, and just a little scattershot. It was a matter of failing successfully, but one that combined with her lackluster, vague soup can concept.
Aja’s Brigitte Bardot fantasy was stunning, but the judges were right that it really didn’t hit the mark for what the challenge asked for.
Random ‘pinions:
This was the episode All-Stars needed at this point. A creative challenge that wasn’t just ‘pull out this pre-prepared character/look/performance’ is exactly the type of thing All-Stars should traffic in more often. Was it super exciting or well-edited? No, but the format switches back to 90 minutes next week so I’m…
Season 4 was priceless. Miss Latrice MF Royale disgust of the front row being so unprofessional. Romper Room Fuckery was added to my vocabulary. And it sealed the love I had for Miss Royale. Even Phi Phi could not talk back when Latrice pounded her hand on the table. Now that is RESPECT!
I agree, S4 was an entertaining train wreck. I could watch that shit all day. This one was hard to watch, other than Ben, Aja, and mostly Shangela.
I might add to that, that the fandom has all sorts of binarist oversimplification.
I’ve come around to the opinion it was too soon to do another All Star season, at least without allowing previous All Stars to compete again. There are some fabulous queens here, but All Stars relies on queens who are good at Drag Race, which is an extremely specific skill set
Ben should have been on All Stars 2 - then maybe that season wouldn’t have been a race to crown Alaska. They aren’t allowed to do copyrighted characters. They get around that by stating they are doing the actress, yet actually playing the character. E.g. Bob doing ”Uzo” when she was clearly doing Suzanne/CrazyEyes.
Random ‘pinions (after a week off):
I *hate* how rushed the edit for the runway was. We barely got a glimpse of the flower looks.

Aja so far cannot be shook. That bitch. I wish I could pull that off.
BenDeLa is KILLING it. She better not falter ‘cause if she winds up on the bottom she’s gonna be taken out.
