I did a search on McDonalds breakfast last week and the first thing that came up was a thing about secret menu breakfast items. I just wanted to know the time they stopped serving b/c my kid wanted their pancakes, but my reaction was WTF? Isn't that just special ordering?

All I can offer is that as a former server and current parent, my kids behave themselves. To them, getting disciplined in a restaurant means they didn't make eye contact with the server while ordering. Some of us are trying to do their part.
