The reasoning behind that is downloading, possessing, and distributing* the material creates demand, and demand can create more abused children.

Okay, so their intent was to harm real children. That’s a crime. That’s not the same thing as AI generating child pornography. If law enforcement wants to use AI generated porn to entrap those same kinds of people who intend to harm children, I’m all for it.

I wasn’t a watcher of the show, but were those people trying to harm AI generated children? Or, were they trying to harm actual children?

Constitutionally, and logically, this law should not hold up.
As long as no actual minors are harmed, then there’s no crime. It’s no different than writing a story about minors having sex. You can’t outlaw creativity or thought that you, or society, finds repugnant or abhorrent. Thought policing should not exist.
