I’ve given up on all German cars. I just barely like SOME American vehicles. My money gets spent on Asian vehicles now... because I have to spend so little compared to all the others.

I’ll never own a VW. Audi’s are a low maybe, but, they’re still too close to their VW cousin for it to be a hard yes.

MQB platform is great actually. and one hell of a lot of car for the money

1974 Beetle; Loved it. 1972 Bus; Fantastic. 1989 Vanagon; Swoon! 1996 GTI VR6; Amazing! 2003 Passat GLX 4-Motion Wagon, Hateful money pit with remorseless failure upon failure. The Passat put a stake in my heart. I won’t ever go near a VW dealership again.

“ but the doors sound so nice when you close them! ”

Had an ‘04 GTI. Sooooooo many shop visits. Gave em one more chance with an'08 S4. Tail light simply fell off while driving on the highway one day. Quality!

I have a 2011 Jetta Sel bought it at 30k miles and its just about to roll over to 100K. Never left me stranded or had any major issues.

From my experience there are generally two camps of VAG owners. The ones who love them and have no issues and the ones who don’t like them have a ton of issues. There is rarely any in the middle.

the turd buckets of Passats and Jetta’s they feasted on the world in the mid 2000's.

The American Passat and Jetta are of the “Built inexpensively for the cheap American buyer,” but the European models are apparently much nicer since Europeans apparently don’t consider sedans to be icky.

Yeah I stayed away after my 2001 Audi S4, loved the car but man, something was always broken. But now I’m in the market for a smaller second vehicle, and frankly the GTI (or even the Golf R if I want to pay that much) seem like loads of fun, especially in a manual version. Looks like VW had done better in reliability

Yeah they certainly didn’t do themselves any favors in the late 90s early 00's. I love mine, but do I want to have it when it has 150,000 miles? Probably not......

I had a 2000 GTI GLX.  That car was such a complete POS.  I still haven’t forgiven VW.

I hope you do take a look. Our 2012 TDI wagon was flawless through 6 years and 143,000 miles until they bought it back. My 2016 GTI has been bulletproof through 66,000 miles and probably 20 autocross and track days. VW interiors are very, very nice. And their infotainment is seamless, CarPlay works so well. My wife’s

1st Gear: VW doesn’t lose money in America because of America. They did that shit to themselves. It started way before dieselgate too. Look back at your own archives and you’ll see bemoaning about VW cutting corners on the Jetta and Passats to bring them downmarket to sell more. They went from a mid premium brand to

Looks like part of a spring to me. those aren’t supposed to break.

BANKS HATE THIS ONE WEIRD TRICK...

It may be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but there are a lot of acts in there that aren’t strictly “rock and roll”. Are Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, or The Supremes any more rock than Janet? James Brown and Ray Charles were part of the first class, so clearly they weren’t restricting it to just rock

Hell if I know. Look how bizarrely long it took for Rush to get in. The Hall is weird sometimes.

Please shut the fuck up.
