“We need to make sure the rich keep getting more of the pie, because Venezuela!”

Jesus Christ man, look up “straw man fallacy”. Stop making people defend points they were not, in fact, making.

Spreading the wealth also worked out well for post WWII America, and is currently working out for other nations (you know the ones) :)

Venezuela only proves that hitching your entire country’s economy to a singular, volatile commodity (oil) is a foolish thing to do.

And very, very bad things happened to people under the guise of “the rich deserve everything they have and anyone trying to take even one penny is a thief”.

“Hurr durr, Venezuela”

No one is suggesting anything of the sort, so be less of a tool. You can do things like setting the corporate tax rate at 90% like it was during Eisenhower’s administration, strengthen Dodd-Frank, limit tax loopholes and shelters, and set a proportional cap on executive salaries that rises and falls based on

People do describe the middle ground, and the opposition ignores the nuance and shouts “COMMUNISM! SOCIALISM!”.

Capitalism worked out so well for our various banana republics and puppet states, as long as you don’t have to actually live there.

Mmm yes good point, I forgot there’s literally no middle ground between our current system and Venezuela.

The plural of “anecdote” is still not “data.”

Yes, isn’t it crazy to think that we, in the most prosperous nation in the world, at the most prosperous moment of human history, might spread our prosperity around to all people instead of hoarding it in Panamanian banks? SO WEIRD.

There is a culture of collusion between boards of directors (often CEOs or former CEOs of other companies) and top management to make sure everyone gets lots of money COMPLETELY REGARDLESS of how the company performs. This is not wild-eyed imaginings, it is fact. Plenty of CEOs have driven companies into the ground

I assume it’s something more along the lines of “CEO’s have an important role in an organization, but are not worth 200x the average employees salary”.

We don’t need an ideal world, just a better one than what we have now. I imagine part of that involves restricting the pay of smarmy, gladhanding assholes who provide, what? Leadership, I guess.

Isn’t it amazing how many people think and act as if the problem was solved in 1965?

Remember, many of the people that think racism is over, also think that Dinosaurs roamed the earth just 5,000 years ago along side Jesus.

Housing policy/inequality might be the most grossly uncovered issue in America these days. Would love to see more regular Concourse pieces on it

Pioneering broadcaster my ass. The Machine did all the work.

If she’d just been born a few years later, they’d never have to worry about the birthday/playoff thing.
