You do have to be careful with your statistics though. With some professions (the sciences mostly) it is pretty common to get a Ph.D. without ever having any intention of working in academia (I certainly didn’t get mine with that intention).  

Academia has so many skeletons in its closet it’s a wonder the closet hasn’t exploded. The whole system is set up to fundamentally exploit labor to an extent that’s mind boggling. Predatory sexual behavior is sadly but one of the many consequences, none of which are likely to be curbed anytime soon.

I hope it is getting better too. I think that’s why talking about it helps so much, because people need that awareness, that no this shit isnt okay.
