Pretty much, though they probably got the grenade launchers for cheap, if anything at all. But it begs the same question as San Diego's MRAP. Just because you could, does that mean you should? If the whole point of getting three grenade launchers is just to hold onto them for the LAPD, then why didn't the LAPD get

they've had three grenade launchers since 2001

I thought my Tamagotchi was awesome until I got into high school. Then I realized that I, like my tamagotchi, was not cool.

Nanopets, anyone?

"What is up with an industry that is supposedly so welcoming to disenfranchised men yet can't seem to offer the same sanctuary for women?" — YES!

Shared this with a friend from across the country who actually works at a comics shop and also happens to be black, and has many amusing stories about casual nerd racism. He had a pretty good comment I'm going to paraphrase here.

Him: "Okay, so if my shop had a room that everyone called 'dead nigger storage', think

great, can't shop there anymore.

Those who have know us for years must realize that we do not condone this behavior.

Just a joke... a 'joke' isn't something you say because it's rebellious/weird/quirky to you. A joke is funny. A joke is something that makes you and other people laugh. A joke's entire purpose is to creature humor.

Poor Amanda! Scrawling her a note on a napkin at the Taco Bell Drive-Thru that says "were not gettin any younger. marry me?

Ugh. I've watched all her pieces and while I don't agree with all her points that's a good place to start a debate/discussion, not start a campaign of fear and intimidation.

How does it go through somebody's brain that the appropriate response to anything is to threaten to rape and murder the people they disagree with? Most especially puzzling is the "I disagree with what you say about women being targets for sexualized violence, so I'm going to threaten you with sexualized violence,

WHY. WHY are women seen as over-sensitive and "hysterical" and told to calm down about this shit.

I'm glad that she tweeted the threat. It brings more attention to her cause. However, its sad that she's receiving threats like this. Her comments weren't offensive, just informed. Hopefully the authorities do their job wit this situation.

You have neatly summed up the reason why the world needs my media-facing racial sensitivity consulting company. Website pending. TM

Being black, I don't need to be lectured on what is and isn't a "black person's job requirement."

As a related aside - it makes me SO ANGRY when people view Jez commenters' justified hurt feelings or anger as some sort of form of cute entertainment. I see it all the time - "Oh, I told my Jezzie cousin about this, and it was so funny - she got sooooo angry" "oh, [on vaguely women-related article] can't wait for
