If he didn’t have a gun, he’d have stabbed her or beat her to death, run her down with a car, etc. I’m the biggest advocate for gun control there is, but this is a domestic violence and control issue, not a gun issue.

A lot of people are incorrectly commenting on the dog being responsible, this isn’t correct. Wolves have better smell, better hearing and are smarter than dogs.. By the time the dog had noticed the wolf, the wolf had already been aware of, and was most likely following the dog.
I think you are humanizing animal interactions and that in doing so simplify it too much.
Dogs were originally domesticated and bred for purposes other than being petted. One of the main reasons was hunting. A hunting dog can’t very well go searching for prey if its owner has to be right next to it while it looks for scent trails.
