Isn’t the whole crowd supposed to clap along, like in the movies?

Hi. Thank you for being so open and honest and how you feel. We should be having discussions like this.

This passage is objectively false: “...he makes 20 million dollars a year, gets 30+ weeks off, works about 22 weeks a year etc” First he doesn’t and never has made $20m a year. He received a $12m signing bonus a few years ago. Second, NFL contracts are more or less like at-will employment; the only guaranteed money is

Dammit... +1

I just feel like he has a platform that most don’t

Nope. This is dumb. Marginalized peoples like Kaepernick and Rapinoe earn the change that’s necessary in this country by virtue of being human beings. Get the fuck out of here with this corny bullshit.

This is such a strange, uniquely American idea. It’s not The Military Anthem. It’s not The Troops Anthem. It’s the National Anthem. It’s for all of the people. It is not profession-specific.

So what about the guy in the bathroom taking a 2 chapter shit. Is he disrespecting the flag. What about the girl serving beer and fries in the concourse. Is she disrespecting the flag? The camera man on the sidelines? The lady sitting breast feeding her baby?

“I am a foremost civil rights activist” is right up there on the list of things no civil rights activist has ever said.

She has the right to wave the rainbow flag because public opinion grew less homophobic, and because of SCOTUS and changes in the law at the city & state level, not because of soldiers.

The troops do not own the anthem.

I’m pretty sure the people who died for our freedoms didn’t do it so that this country would become a place where you have to show dogmatic loyalty to symbols as if we lived in a dictatorship, saluting “Dear Leader” and bowing down lest we be marked a traitor. Let’s save that forced patriotic bullshit for North Korea.

What in the world does “I am a foremost civil rights activist” mean?

So you want professional sports players to take flags onto the field and burn them during the anthem?

The first thing civil rights activists don't do is compare atrocities among the oppressed.

Just trying to pre-empt the Play Clock Highlight Trurhers:

It’s real easy. I turn my tv on, and there’s a football game on. Then the game ends and I turn on something else, or turn the tv off.

I mean, a lot of the athletes are enjoying themselves out there (Mr. Hunter excluded). And people with a similiar fondness for the sport likely garner much joy from watching others garnering joy from playing.

Shoulda been you, Marty Cordova, Jr.
