It’s all coming together...just taking slow. ESPN will eventually have a subscription service I assume. Nielsen is finally getting a service for OTT and Out of Home viewers. Everything will sort it’s self out, but their are growing pains
Yep, and the fact is eventually (a long time from now) ESPN will move their model to an online subscription. They own so many rights, so they hold all of the chips. Right now cable is too profitable and apparently they make just as much off SlingTV and their clones.
The Titanic is FAR from sinking. They own stacking rights for everything and can drop all their shows online and could create a subscription at any moment, right now cable is still hanging on tho. They still are by far the biggest fish in the sea.

as soon as this BS argument came up I have become VERY supportive of ESPN.
Thing is if you want to be a general sports fan, you still need cable. Last night I watched two NBA games (TNT) and then SVP at midnight. It was a pretty enjoyable night. Tonight my Pens play (NBC Sports Net?) and I’ll flip over to the draft (ESPN & NFL). It would be hard to sell this as a subscription.
I do agree his ambition is very obvious
I generally agree ESPN is by far the best if you want a general recap of the night. I watched SVP at midnight last night and it was really, really good TV.
ESPN blacksout games occasionally, but none of their game of the week games (think Sunday night baseball)
IMO they totally impact each other. The Cable channels all own/have huge resources in digital, too. ESPN can air games however they like and will remain the largest driver of the market unless Amazon or someone steps in. Unfortunately for the sports leagues, consumers havent yet shown they want to primarily stream…
Sling and Vue are the best bet if you only want the basics. Might have an issue with your ROOT tho. I’ve heard ESPN gets $5-7 out of the $20 dollars a month for Sling
This is all happening. ESPN just happens to be SOO powerful that they make most of their money on their very high cable sub fees. Don’t for a second think ESPN is falling apart, they aren’t able to print money like they could a few years back. They are still #1 by a mile
SlingTV is $20 a month. Word on the street is $5-7 of that goes to ESPN. That is a pretty damn good buy for the basics.
to be fair the last Cut a few months back was all business side people
because that’s more money than you’d pay if you just got a skinny bundle and an antenna.
they make so much money because they have tons of different people fighting over their product. They make sooooo much of Direct TV too
nothing has pissed me off more than that. Since I work in TV (on the business side) I see first hand how wrong this is and how racists I mean idiots will pull anything to be a liberal issue. I’ve spent all day ripping people on twitter
Yep, ESPN drives most of these huge rights. They are not going to pay as much this time and they are going to get the rights. This will directly effect players.
Is Trent Dilfer a elite layoff?
