I just opened up a Roth IRA to roll over 401k funds from an old employer and contribute as much as I can before April 15, and I’m down several thousand dollars already. I’m still buying though. Some people recommend keeping as much money as you’ll need in bonds so that you won’t have to sell stocks at a loss when the

But if you do it wrong, you end up owning more money than some people can afford or even end up getting a tax penalty for not witholding enough. And not everyone has a job with a predictable salary. Some people rely on unpredictable bonuses, commissions, royalties, or other sources of income.

You know that you can put that IRA money in cash or bonds if you want, right?

Yeah, but don’t buy using money you’ll need in the next few years. If it’s a minor crisis, this could be near the bottom. If it’s a major crisis that pushes the world into recession, this could just be the beginning of the fall.

In California, I don’t think the presence of cameras alone would necessarily be violating any of your legal rights as a tenant. The cases where they might be violating your legal rights are:

Here is a picture of a short person with his knees jammed against a seat in the upright position. Where do you think that seat in front of him is going to go when the person reclines? Straight into his kneecaps, that is where.

I have to wonder if you’ve ever flown in an airplane before. On the better coach seats, if someone reclines, there is still about a centimeter of space between your knees on the back of their seat assuming your are of normal height (72-76").

I totally understand that. And you should understand that if you recline your seat into my knees, it makes my knees uncomfortable and they’ll be moving around the back of your seat for the next few hours. If you dislike that, you can always move your seat back into the upright position.

Likewise, I don’t owe it to the person who reclines into my knees to not move my knees around their back constantly for the duration of the flight.

So you’re short and you’ve never had a problem that is primarily experienced by people who are not short? Go figure.

I think you might be overestimating your height, because on a lot of airlines, a full recline hits my knees and trust me, whoever reclines into my knees is going to feel them moving around their lower back for the next 6 hours of the flight.

Funny because it was not long ago that the GOP was the party of the educated while the Democrats were the party of the working class. It was pretty even for a while, but Trump became the first Republican to win the Presidency while badly losing the educated voting population.

To be fair, I doubt Trump University ever qualified for the GI Bill as it would likely have to be regionally accredited to receive GI Bill funding and it was a straight-up scam.

The reason that college was more affordable in the past was because there were more subsidies per student than there are today. Restoring the same funding per-student would go a long way toward making college affordable.

Just a few observations:

Meh, that’s debatable. Desktop Linux is usually less targeted by large trolling type malware, due to its tiny install base compared to Windows or even MacOS, but I’m not sure that it is any inherently more secure than a Windows or MacOS desktop. I mean, it doesn’t have any kind of serious anti-malware services

In DS9, they were able to do that because much of the cast wasn’t Starfleet.

I don’t think that is exactly how it works. The captain of a Starfleet ship only has minimal discretion to set his mission. So, while I’m sure that there are plenty of them who would be happy to take Picard on as a passenger or even loan him a shuttle, it’s not like they have discretion to just abandon their current

My assumption was always that your role in society brought some sort of benefit in relationship to your status, such as exists today in the military or the government. Everyone’s basic needs were met, but things like a nicer house, a better choice in location, extra replicator or holodeck credits, the ability to
