You’re confusing recessions (which measure medium-term economic growth of an entire economy) with income distribution (which measures how wealth and economic growth is distributed).

Conversely though, a lot of times it’s not even clear that the economy is in a recession until it’s over. Recessions are usually 6+ months of negative economic growth, so for short recessions, sometimes they are long over before it is agreed that they even occurred.
