I think I heard that he encountered discipline briefly when he was in New York Military Academy, but that was the last time. He never gives them money when they ask, which is pretty short-sighted for an organization that holds your high school transcripts....

Oh buddy, don’t. Asians have faced horrific racism in America, but what we experience today isn’t comparable. This take is especially unattractive in light of how hard some Asian Americans have been siding with whiteness in matters of public policy lately.

Like Martha Kostyra? :)

And it was still worlds better than “мы это они.” I can’t understand why they didn’t leave all the Russian to Matthew Rhys.

How is any of this the point? Claudia and Elizabeth wanted Paige to know that the Red Army played a vital role in the allied victory, which is something that did not get taught in American high school. They weren’t talking about FDR and Churchill and Stalin– they were talking about what the Soviets suffered.

Huh. You definitely don’t like women and you also don’t like black people. Are you all in on white men or nah?

Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears was released in the USSR in 1980.

Nope. “Herbert Aptheker, who did detailed research on slave resistance in North America for his book American Negro Slave Revolts, found about 250 instances where a minimum of ten slaves joined in a revolt or conspiracy.” http://www.historyisaweapon.com/defcon1/zinncolorline.html

Neither 43 nor 45 went to those colleges. I salute your studied indifference to their “achievements.”

Continue to listen, non-defensively, when people point out stereotypes. And spend some time with TVTropes and Writing with Color. Both sites do a good job pointing out racist stereotypes.

I still haven’t seen myself entirely represented on film and I’m doing just fine” sure, sure, but let’s chat again after you have that experience and see how you feel then

As someone else mentioned, SmartBitchesTrashyBooks is a great resource. In addition, here are some of my favorite authors: Laura Kinsale, Courtney Milan, Loretta Chase, and Jennifer Crusie. I’ve enjoyed everything from the first two; LC & JC are a bit more hit or miss. Sarah MacLean, Meredith Duran, and Lisa Kleypas

Since everyone else has done the hard work of explaining what whiteness is and how whiteness works, I can swoop in with the fun stuff– where can we see the creation and/or maintenance of whiteness playing out?

As all your elementary (and middle and high school teachers) no doubt told you– “If it’s not about you, it’s not about you.”

These ideas don’t exist in a vacuum. They were nurtured by longstanding traditions and legal interventions. So, “the tiniest smidgeon of non-white DNA” making you a person of color comes from the one-drop rule, which you can read about here- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-drop_rule

Respectfully, that’s not accurate. RFK Jr may be insane, but he absolutely has done some good in the world. His work with Riverkeeper has had a huge impact on the Hudson Valley and on the way water protection has been pursued across the US. He just has massive blindspot here, and it’s awful.

I think it’s always been like this. The Manchester Union Leader has been hyperreactionary for a long time. For example- when John Glenn orbited the earth, the Manchester Union Leader reported that he was the first man in space, and that the Russians had lied about Gagarin.
