Herbs do great in pots. I built a stair step herb garden a few years ago - you use premade stair risers and bolt window box planters to to them. Lean against a wall and plant!

There used to be a free audio book website where volunteers read books that were in the public domain - libravox? A woman with a real affinity for accents read The Secret Garden. It was magically.

Those are excellent starter plants. Pole beans or bush beans? I’ve very had great luck with carrots. Lettuce and spinach are awesome - they grow fast and you can replant. Spinach is really hardy. Rosemary and thyme are good herbs, too. Chives will come back year after year - even if they’re in a pot.
