Harsh but fair.
Harsh but fair.
Leaving the upper window trim always read as half-assed to me... if they’d removed that, like Porsche did with the Targa, it’d be a great-looking car.
He isn’t “fucking whole,” he can never walk again. The opportunity cost there is so immense it’s beyond words. Want to go to any medieval city in Europe? Nope, they have stairs. Grand Canyon? Nope. Weekend hike with the family? Nope. Teach a kid to ride a bike? Not really possible. Yeah, life goes on, but this is…
I only drive it on nice days, although it’s fun to take it to work every once in a while and I wouldn’t want to leave it in the parking garage all day without the roof on.
I do not know which exact configuration of switches and levers will make this happen and have been unsuccessful to date. Any input you can provide would be helpful so I don’t get hypothermia this winter. Lol.
My father purchased it years ago when air cooled cars weren’t worth their weight in gold; I inherited it a few years back. I do prefer the Targa to the cab, though... the air-cooled cars weren’t designed to be convertibles so in my opinion pre-996 cabriolets always look a bit awkward whether the roof is up or down. My…
Thanks! And yup, its Slate Blue.
Thanks! And same here, I’d get a Singer Targa built with the same color scheme as this, and probably also a Singer coupe in black with black-center Fuchs with the polished lip. Dare to dream...
I think a candid photo of any Detroit Chrysler dealership mechanic’s face when they pop the hood expecting a normal US engine would be worth the price of admission.
‘84, it’s a 3.2 Carrera. Weatherstripping was done and the interior was redone when my late father bought it, circa 2005.
I own a classic one, and I wish it was a power top. Most specifically for quick drives, it takes a minute or to for the roof off-roof on part to occur, so for like a 5 minute trip it isn’t always worth it. Also sucks if the top is dusty; it isn’t a clean process.
I’ll take the bait to make a few points.
I’ll preface this by saying that this “real estate developer” seems to be an absolute asshole and a white supremacist.
Great reference to a criminally underrated movie.
+1
Spousal requirement. My last A4 was a manual and she doesn’t know how to drive a stick and doesn’t have any interest in learning until we eventually (hopefully many, many years from now) inherit her mother’s 356 Convertible D. Next question?
They were also surprisingly awesome at doing burnouts, at least the Chrysler/Dodge ones. Narrow, not grippy tires, FWD, loose transmission tuning, and over 200hp are a nice recipe for 8' long burnouts just by flooring the gas.
I’ll be honest a lot of that is more technical than my understanding, but in my experience yes the ZF6 definitely comes off as an immensely worse transmission in practice.
I’m with you most of the way, except 8 gears is the right amount for most new turbocharged engines (caveat: only for engines with 200+ hp). The acceleration numbers (shorter low gears) and fuel economy numbers (tall 7th and super tall 8th) both can improve drastically when transitioning from a 6AT to 8AT.
