That’s one thing to say with DV, but ALS isn’t all that common of a disease. The incidence rate of ALS is only something like 3.9 per 100,000 people in the US. Contrast that to something like the mortality (not diagnosis) of cardiovascular disease at between 100 and 200 per 100,000 people in the US.

The Ice bucket challenge was extremely successful and had very demonstrable effects. It raised somewhere around $115 million in the US, 20% of which goes to patient care and community help. Because of the money raised there has already been new discoveries made about the disease.

That wasn’t how you were supposed to do it though. You were supposed to dump ice on your head and donate, then call out more people. If you didn’t want to do it you were supposed to donate MORE money than if you had, then you didn’t get to nominate more people.
