Vista?
What about WMP11? Sure I use VLC to watch my videos (just because it will play them), but as you said it has no media library tools! I keep WMP on all day for music but only keep VLC on to watch specific videos, so I think the question here was a bit ambiguous.
Vote: Windows Media Player 11
You can put the conversation in a separate regular-sized window, and then it's actually pretty nice. I finally get to have video and IM on the same window
VOTE: FaceBook simply because it made them social
As an alternayive to the PIP, I currently use YouPlayer and it works really well. It operates in the sidebar, unlike PIP which covers your screen
Wikipedia worked. I believe this will too. Google has failed me so often, being given the opportunity to fix results sounds great to me
VOTE: KASPERSKY (free after rebate)
I just want to be able to play as either side (not that I'll ever own the game, I have a Wii)
That trailer was the first for as long as I can remember to actually get me excited about a game I'd never seen before (and even feel sorry for the Wii, which is all I have). Than I scroll down to the comments and everyone hates it?
Vote: Netvibes.
Why are Vista Start and Spotlight only honorable mentions when I know so many people voted them?

I always keep coming back to Notepad++ for everything... XML, ascii files, .ini files, Visual Studio work, it replaces everything. It just feels so much cooler to use, it's fast and snappy, yet so powerful. Their Search and Replace is da bomb
Get Stickies. I haven't tried Samurize, but easy-access Post-It notes on your desktop with adjustable opacity and adjustable everything else, is a real dream. It handles my GTD (I wasn't a very productive person), and keeps me from needing to add tasks or notes in Outlook.
@Raphyy:
So, were only cross-network apps allowed? I mean, what if I like all the features of Yahoo or MSN Messenger?
No one cares about Windows Photo Gallery? It treats me great and takes care of drawbacks that keep me from installing Picasa. Picasa's pretty and all, but WPG gives me more of what I need and I prefer the way it handles folders.
