I am so sorry. I am SO SO sorry. In terms of grief for someone on the receiving end, that’s in many ways worse than a death, while you don’t get anywhere near the kind of support you get when someone dies. I hope it’s at least a little less raw now.

In addition to the garden-variety obnoxiousness of his personality (public “advocacy” marked by self-infatuation, self-importance, self-glorification, self-seriousness) he has a long history of violence, domestic & otherwise. It’s the latter part that kind of erases any potential for sympathy for me.

Better for whom? It’s not like the emotional fallout doesn’t happen, it’s just that you don’t have to witness it. Generally speaking, if you’re making a choice that leads to another person absorbing a greater share of misery in order that you might be able to absorb a lesser share, it’s not an ethical choice.
