I quit reading the book because it was too abstract for me, but friends I know who loved the book said the movie takes liberties. I didn’t hate the movie, and the performances are great, but, as I said, only one scene in the movie is top marks thrilling and scary.

yes... is that somehow a problem? there are many movies that geeks love and I don’t that I try to see if perhaps I just wasn’t getting it. Pacific Rim is another garbage movie that I watch a few times hoping to figure out wtf people liked about it.

I watched it twice in a row just to see if it was me or if it was really garbage, and my god it is really garbage. And a waste of a hugely talented cast.
