Very well put. It's not that it's a terrible car - it's totally competent. The problem is that the bar is so high, and the competition so fierce in the class, that competent just isn't enough. The Sonata looked like a class killer just a couple of years ago, now it looks barely above the Altima and Galant.

I have an R53. It's up to about 150k now. It's seen a lot of autocross time and some track laps, and I hit the rev limiter on my commute daily. It hasn't been issue free, but it's been pretty good. Here's what I have replaced outside of standard maintenance:
