In my mind it makes sense for the thumb grip of the stick itself to represent the camera, and the pivot point represents the subject that it’s moving around. So in third person games, I like inverting.

I wonder when I’ll be able to get over the word “hype” being used as an adjective. I’m still struggling with “my bad.” Don’t even get me started on “nonplussed.”

Avoiding making this an entire page of O-faces is a small mercy, but appreciated.

I actually think this map suits his style much better than any of the work you linked there. The top-down perspective probably helps since the other pieces come off lacking depth.

Lucky for me, I played the games before seeing that show. Consequently I hated it with a passion.

Considering they have 2.6 million subscribers, there’s probably a decent overlap with the Kotaku audience. RubberRoss is also on the Top 50 list of creators in Mario Maker, so there’s another overlap point.

I don’t personally find the art style appealing, but I understand that many would and do. What I will say however, is that the incongruence between Phoenix’s pose/expression and the dialogue on that top panel is an art fail somewhere along the chain, depending on whether or not the dialogue was changed after the page

You can play custom music in the game, at least in the PC version. If you blare it loudly enough from the helicopter, you can use it as a distraction, even though normally you might prefer to use the chopper to make a stealthier escape.

Looking at it in terms of programming, core gameplay hasn’t really increased in complexity that much over time, but the systems around it, I’m thinking specifically physics and AI, are hugely more complex now than in the past. Most glitches seem to involve these aspects. We’re also seeing some interesting glitches

There’s a world of difference in how Hayter and Sutherland add that “huh?” on the end of the quote.

It’s not actually spooky, it’s joke. Imagine a real helicopter heading to a combat zone pumping out an early 90’s kids show theme. It’s just ridiculous.

Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Castlevania: SOTN are all still in my top 10 of all time list.

I’ve got problems with the story and world in the game as well, but for me, the gameplay was just so far beyond just about any other action RPG I’ve played that I would still put it among my all-time favorites.

? I don’t know what that has to do with anything. MOBA, Action, Strategy, RPG, Visual Novel, Rhythm... none of this matters on a list like this.

Ashley? Haha, fun fact: any time you make Ashley take an action that makes her do something like say she’s sorry, her honesty stat goes down. She’ll also let her “crush” die if he slights her at all. She’s the biggest sociopath of the group.

I’m going crazy! Any “isometric” game list should only include games displayed using parallel projection!

This list really should’ve been called “Best Fixed Camera Angle Games.” Battle chasers isn’t “isometric” (by which we actually mean parallel-projected), but of course neither are Diablo 3 or Civ 5... so it’s okay, I guess.

Starcraft is fine on this list. Starcraft 2 wouldn’t fit though. This has nothing to do with gameplay type, only perspective projection.

Is she worse than Xander? Actually don’t even say. I already can’t watch the show because Xander is insufferable.

While I’m at it, Civ 5 should be removed too.
