Different people have different tastes. The Ghibli films, on the most part, have a wide appeal. Quite a lot of anime though, at least here in the West, has an extremely niche audience. Meaning, the majority do not care for it.

Movie that will traumatise your children are fine as long as it’s in the right way, the way that makes them think or the way that let them expand their imagination, and Spirited Away definitely match the second one.

I’ve only watched that movie once, and I utterly refuse to watch it again. One of only two movies to actually make me cry.
