International students are generally quite ok being asked “where are you from, really?”. This is only a problematic question if you are asking an American.

If they can’t have any poc actors because of ‘authenticity’ (lol) then what is preventing them from having a diverse production crew? Is there not a single way to employ a person of colour?

Why should an editorial on Jezebel — which, in this case, is a commentary on two other editorials (no surprise there, that’s the bread and butter of Gawker Media) — mention right wing populism in Europe in an article about a distinctly American brand of candidate?

More or less. Trump is just an opportunistic asshole. He is the symptom of the problem. The actual problem is we have a huge population of bigoted and hateful people.

One of the most interesting parts of the article:

I really do think that while there are certain similarities in the rise of rightists in Europe and the US, there are some elements that are uniquely American and one major one is the election of a minority leader, something that I don’t think has really happened in Europe. And that can make a big difference.

Probably a similar mechanism at work: Social progress means that the intersections of poverty and race start to vanish. When race become less indicative of power and status, those who were once “high status” now believe themselves to be just as susceptible as everyone else to poverty. They now have something new to

If this made her feel powerful and helped with her healing, then that’s awesome but I’m troubled by the idea that a dominatrix is inherently powerful (and that male submissives are inherently safe).

Hi there,

The problem here is coded language. As a Jewish person who has routinely been propositioned by proselytizing missionaries, it’s still pretty screwed up to imply that you’re only a “good [insert person of another faith here] in my” if you meet a pretty limited rubric — and unfortunately in this case, as well

“friendly Muslims that live alongside them — that may not convert but protect them and certainly look out for them”

Defend? He was praising missionaries, who it's hard to believe still exist. Gross people who go to places trying to annoy people into changing their religion because God forbid people be happy with whatever myth they've chosen to live by.

“The only good Muslims in this story are the ones coddling annoying people who are trying to bother people into changing their religion.” There you go.

Rubio talks about Muslims like they’re bears.

As a recovering christian and someone who once went on a retrospectively ill-conceived “mission trip” to Mexico in high school, I’m so over this shit. Using language like “convert” is so gross to me. Like, what do these white christian Americans have to offer people in these other countries besides flaunting how much

If someone chooses a school because of their athletic program they shouldn’t be in college in the first place.

I’m bringing you out of the grays in the hopes that you’re actually rational and that was a serious question.

Yale doesn’t offer athletic scholarships so . . . . ya wrong.

The team has the right to “support” their ex-teammate. The women have a right to say that they are supporting a rapist. They also have a right to say they are being silenced if the team is tearing down their flyers.

Spend their time at school studying instead of throwing balls at hoops and propagating rape culture?

I wish we didn’t give these young male athletes such an inflated since of self importance like we seem to do. This whole rhetoric of banding together with their brother and whatnot...please, you play college basketball, there’s honestly few things less important than that.
