I think a lot of the objection is that the word “rebel” juxtaposed with “slave” wouldn’t have the same meaning for a non-American. To American ears, it sounds like, “I would rather be a Confederate soldier than a slave,” but it doesn’t have that context elsewhere.

Also Mary Wollstonecraft who wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman considered marriage to be slavery. It’s not the same as being taken from your home, sold and shipped to a foreign country to work for no money but it did involve being passed a property from one man to another.

Latin refers to being from Latin America where as Hispanic are people from a country that speaks Spanish which would include Spain (the word actually comes from Hispania which was a Roman word for the whole of the Iberian peninsula) but not Brazil…

Actually, yes they are. That’s the primary difference between “Hispanic” and “Latino.” Latino is a subset of Hispanic. Hispanic also includes people from the Iberian peninsula.
