I'd argue that the cutting works for the most part in Supremacy, but the whole schtick falls apart dreadfully in Ultimatum. Every single scene, whether a fight scene or a dialogue scene, is cut with the same style and rhythm, making the whole movie a choppy, monotonous mess. I find it exhausting to watch, and not in

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm a huge fan but his book does something similar… within the first few chapters he jokes about losing years of his childhood to being raped. It's so obliviously unsavoury, in that you know he's just out of touch, but I know victims of childhood sexual abuse, and the last thing I would

That's for the courts to decide.

To be fair, that could just be him being British.

…and for some reason has decided not to take a career as a DJ at children's birthday parties.

I had no idea Chris Nolan commented here!

It's hard to argue against his significance and importance to American cinema. He really was a trailblazer, and has a singular, uncompromising voice, which is becoming rarer and rarer.

I'm not sure I agree with your first sentence. Plenty of European filmmakers before and since have covered similar themes and sometimes in formally, stylistically unique ways. In America, Sophia Coppola is probably the most prominent member of the indie elite who deals almost exclusively in ennui.

It's the literary equivalent of that drunk guy at a bar agitating for a fight and you turning around and beating him to a pulp. Sure, he might've been an arsehole to begin with, but surely there's a better option than lowering yourself to their level.

Totally. And it doesn't even have to be as expensive as visiting other countries - just make a series about Conan taking on odd jobs around the country. That remote of him learning how to audition for TV commercials is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Him being an NYC Chinese delivery runner was also

What makes him old fashioned is not his talents, but rather his slavish adherence to late night conventions. I was really hoping that moving to TBS was going to reinvigorate their format, but if anything the show itself has become less daring.

Unfortunately Crash will score an upset victory.

Just because it's "improvised" doesn't mean they shoot the scene once, get four or five great lines in, and then move on. Scenes can be shot a number of times, and often last far longer in the room than they do in the final edit.

Thanks Obama!

Also the first two ingredients listed on a package of Donald Trump.

And Ira's laugh is the thing that makes it so, so great.

Except if he wins a competition.

Yes.

I don't really think it was necessarily "the best they possibly could have" done. I mean, I'm sure I could spend 30 mins thinking up a better way to integrate him.

Yep, loved the execution of Spidey, but his integration into the story was terrible. You can take him out of the film completely and it doesn't affect anything whatsoever, making it unfortunately feel like just another trailer for the next Marvel film, despite how great Holland is in the role.
