Sorry, but no. If you aren’t supporting yourself in adulthood, and your parents are, they will expect things of you in return. It’s human nature, not abuse, and it’s the price a person pays for not taking care of their own interests.

If your parents are supporting you, they have the right to ask some things of you, even in adulthood. Beyond that, common courtesy alone compels you to reply to family members’ communications.

And how little the child seems to care. When your Mom and Dad are paying your way through life, I don’t think it’s asking a great deal to return a text every once and while.
