That’s not how EVs work. You don’t get more range by cutting down on power. You need more battery for more range. More battery actually corresponds to more power potential.

You’d assume wrong. Electric motors aren’t like gas motors. A bigger one isn’t necessary less efficient than a smaller one. Part of the reason why many EVs have big power is that the trade offs are minimal compared to big power in a gas car.

High power output doesn’t influence range as much, nor does it dramatically influence cost (to some degree, or at least relatively speaking). You don’t get more range by reducing available hp on EVs. Electric motors don’t work like engines. You can get marginally more range in 2WD than AWD due to less friction from fewer moving parts, so in that way reducing total hp does improve range by simply removing extra motors. you are not going to get that much range difference with a lower hp motor. just look at the range difference between the 300 hp models and the 557 hp trim, only 30 miles of range difference.

I also have to believe there are plenty of people who don’t want to pay an extra cent for barely-functioning features like autonomous driving.
