Automatics nowadays tend to be MORE efficient than manuals. Imagine having an 8, 9, or 10-speed manual to try and get similar fuel-economy as the auto. Sure, big rigs have like 100 gears, but even many of them are going to automatics, too.

Controversial counter-counter point: CVTs are fine for the intended buyer in most applications. Sure, you wouldn’t want one in a Corvette, but a Corolla? Bring it on.

At least VW can’t make their electric vehicles this needlessly complex...can they?

That’s exactly how the handles on my vehicle work, and you don’t break anything if you accidentally activate the emergency release. The door just opens like normal.

I’m glad that on my vehicle, the emergency release is also the regular door handle.

It’s one of them supersonic flying boats. Way ahead of its time.
