We’re talking about engine output, not drivetrain torque multiplication.

The high price of those displays is mostly a result of the relative low volume coupled with onerous FAA certification requirements. You can build a glass cockpit for a car with a Chinese Tablet and a bluetooth OBDII dongle for about $75.

Uhh, gears don't change the output of the engine...

Yeah, but in a semi, it makes well over a thousand at the crank, so you can only imagine how much torque they can put down through a 10 speed gearbox.

You've risked the future of the entire company, so you only get a bonus worth 10 assemblers salary.

I built the machines that test the X,Y accuracy as well as touch for certification for panels like that. The specifications required and testing put into those panels is absurd hence the cost.

The center screen on the i3 is for Nav and multimedia. There is a second screen behind the steering wheel for the speedo and other vitals like range etc.

One possible way around that may be to have a head-up display, which has become far more common lately as the cost of the tech has come down. They'd be able to keep the interior minimalist and still provide relevant info in the driver's line of sight.

I personally think Tesla is thinking bigger when it comes to style. They are just going 1 version at a time towards the new style. Musk said in the past that he wants to radically change how cars look like but at this point people may be cautious due to it looking too different. So what they are most likely doing is

“Change in price” doesn’t necessarily mean an increase.

I don’t like how the ribbed hood and nose piece come together. It looks like two different kits were put together by a tuner.

The refresh is coming, at least according to the computer of the tesla engineer I sat next to on a flight to SFO. As Tyler might say, he had very bad OpSec, with calendar invites popping up all over for the “Model S Refresh” and “Model S Ride Height” meetings.

I think it should look similar to the Saleen-tuned Model S. If they’re going to remove the “grille,” which they’re bound to do, this is a pretty good look.

It’s all fun and games until your organs start to fail one by one from dehydration and malnutrition.

Can’t resist making the obvious joke.

...do you have a fever?

Uh, why is a Phoenix news station reporting on a LA car chase live?

If an Esprit ever moves more than a mile under its own power, the London Philharmonic Orchestra is legally obliged to come to your house and play the anthem of the owner’s nationality. A bit like the Olympics.

These are the scenarios that make “the establishment” worry about contested conventions. This is over a parking spot. Imagine how terrible it will be for something even more trivial like the Republican candidate.
