Exactly this. The money lost on this project is more than made up in goodwill which will help them land lucrative DoD and NASA contracts.

To be fair here, you can’t run the country from United’s First Class section. There’s a shit-ton of classified equipment stuffed where cargo usually flies.
It’s very unique and classy without being semi-agro like 45's proposed scheme. It’s not really a mystery where 45 got the scheme: it’s very close to his own 757 paint scheme (indefinitely grounded right now). He thought he was going to be in office long enough to fly on the new AF1, and likely wanted the Presidency clo…
That’s based on an off-the-cuff comment from Musk about how he thinks it might be a good idea. Tesla seems to be having a good experience with opening up chargers in Europe, but they use the same connectors as other EVs in Europe. So it remains to be seen how serious Tesla is about doing it in the USA.
The only standard listed which is applicable to vehicles is that the chargers use the CCS standard. Since every automaker EXCEPT Tesla is going that way, it’s not really an issue. It’s also not an issue because the CCS charging standard is already established - it’s not in a draft state or anything.
Not to mention, the average new car buyer is somewhere around 50 years old now. Old people has the money. So you build new cars for the people that are buying them.
So, when will Mazda put that turbo motor in the Miata? I mean, it’s going into everything else they sell, might as well round out the lineup.
Ironically, many national parks now have chargers. LoL.
If my understanding is correct, the hybrid system on the Tundra (and now Sequoia) is different than the hybrid system on Toyota’s light-duty vehicles. It’s more akin to Honda’s original (and Hyundai’s current) IMA system than the eCVT system. So don’t expect fuel economy to shoot straight to the moon, but the tradeoff…
Well, I heard that Texas has a lot of cows, so they probably have plenty of first class bullshit to go around.
The current system works well for Texas and
TexansDealers.
And yet, despite all this, Musk decided moving headquarters and building a factory in a state that is openly hostile to Tesla’s business practices would be a good idea.
“Look here, son. See that? Those are termite. That wheel ain’t gonna last another ten feet. It would be illegal for me to even let you take this car outta here like that.
It’s time to make wooden wheels great again!
Exactly. Hmmm...six hour flight or 48 hour drive? Tuff choice. Unless you’re on the no-fly list, I guess.
IIRC, all Electrify America DCFC chargers are at least 150Kw capable. The only ones with a slower charge rate are L2 chargers or Chademo.
You’re also forgetting that the generation that brought you the Internet, the World Wide Web, smartphones, and on-demand porn are also in their 50's and beyond. The current median new car buyer is probably very tech literate, and as younger people age into the majority new-car group, they will be even more tech…
Americans: “Make me”
Nah...they’ll just demand more fuel-efficient large SUVs and trucks.
Depends on what you define as “long” and how many times you take such a “long” trip and how tolerant you are of 30 minute stops every few hours.
