Piece on The Daily Beast about how she’s bringing her disgusting Fox News persona to Today Show/NBC, even tho she swore she was done with politics and just wanted to be uplifting.
Megyn Kelly is the opposite of a journalist. She’s the crazy member of a mom’s Facebook group who they keep around because everyone secretly likes reading her crazy, crazy posts.
I think Darren Aronofsky is going to be one of those who get away with any harassment. The guy’s a fucking creep, his films seem obsessed with putting young women in abusive situations, and he seems to date as close to half his age as he can get.
I am always and forever here for Ann Curry dragging the shit out of everyone. She is incredible.
GOTTAHAVEAWAWA
Not to nitpick but Cheesesteak =/= Hoagie. They are too different to compare other than they both occupy an italian roll.
And they so often perversely wallow in the details and the horrified woman’s face and ....ah shit I am done with that as art. I’m sick of the Freudian barfing that seems to be the raison d’être of many male directors.
My dad watches whatever procedural cop show is all about rape and abuse on loop every single day. It is beyond disturbing.
the scenes where they sexualized rape is probably partially responsible for the number of college age males who dont understand consent. and if rape such an effective plot tool it would be helpful if they used it for male characters more often.
Yup. It’s why I noped the fuck out of GoT the first season. It’s also why as a WOC I refuse to watch films with slave narratives. So much great content, there is zero reason to subject my psyche to that stuff.
Godless was the worst. Three rapes in four episodes, the last being highly eroticized. A ripped corset! A peak of perky nipple! It’s as if the directors get off on it. Rape.is.not.sexy.
Thank you! The only thing worse than this is when it’s shown as a character-building narrative for a male character. Then I just wan too shoot my TV instead of only turning it off.
Law and Order: SVU has gotten particularly bad about thus in the past few years. I the early seasons, episodes usually started with the aftermath, the victim going to the station or being found or the detectives arriving at the hospital. But now it feels like every other episode opens with the graphic sexual assault…
Same here. I can’t stand it at all and I don’t get why its still so damn prevalent.
Same here. I nope out and the movie/TV show won’t get me back.
This right here is why I’ve avoided game of thrones
The funny thing is that I have found my love of taking my kids to the movies has paid off in spades. Disney & Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, family oriented Anime films (Ghibli, etc.) mean that I haven’t seen a rape in a theater in... well forever. And nothing of value was lost. :)
not sure if I’ve ever quit another show as quickly as I quit the Westworld pilot
Right. I’m actually perfectly ok with Jessica Jones, because it never showed it and was about the aftermath in a way that didn’t re-victimize her. But generally, don’t love the way it’s dealt with in the vast majority of media.
