I doubt they would make such a major loot change in a matter of days based on some short term feedback. It seems more likely that they were trying to decide on some of the fine tuning, like the percent of high end drop.

Named mobs will now have a guaranteed type of drop. If you are looking for an assault riffle, all you need to do is find out which guy drops that. You might have to kill him a few times to get the perks you want. This feels less tedious to me.
