Yes, because the fact that a prohibition isn’t 100% effective means it’s pointless. /s

Yup. Whites are actually slightly under-represented at Harvard vs. their share of the college-age population (49% of Harvard freshmen, 56% of the population cohort). Hispanics are notably more under-represented (by about 11 percentage points), while Asians are over-represented (by about 16 percentage points). Of

While I agree that, in this case, the terrorist moniker doesn’t apply, there is certainly a strong reluctance to call some white attackers terrorists (i.e. the Kansas City JCC attack, for example) when they clearly are.

Well, you could - blacks and Hispanics are 26% of the class, and if they made admissions truly race-blind, that share would come down. Bulk of the benefit would go to Asians, though, maybe a little bit to whites.

The lawsuits against Harvard (which this investigation is clearly tied to) are primarily from Asian-American students, who argue that they’re under-represented at elite universities vs. the share of the class that would be Asian-American if the schools just considered academics and extra-curriculars. They’re probably

I’d be interested to see what the admissions rate at Harvard is for kids whose parents attended Yale or Princeton, i.e. schools of comparable quality that aren’t Harvard. Some of that high legacy rate is likely truly legacy, and some of it is the fact that Harvard alumni (on the whole) are both smarter and wealthier

And Portland’s banging on the door and looking through the mailslot.

Here’s a crazy thought: October baseball is best played during the daytime.

Or just put on a clock - manager calls for new pitcher, new pitcher has 2 or 3 minutes to be ready to pitch, including the trip from the bullpen.

I checked the score at 9:30, and saw they were still in the third inning. My immediate reaction was “they can’t have started at 7 or 7:30, can they?”

Better, yes, but you’re still driving 5000 lbs of frozen chicken parts from a distribution center to eight different KFCs.

Improve? Sure. Make fun? Doubtful.

Yeah, but that’s a truuuuuck, this is a truck.

“making it really fun to operate”

Not chump change, but the Yankees likely get at least $200M a year from their stake in YES. Dodgers are getting $125-150M a year from Sportsnet LA, etc.

One big challenge for MLB is that, unlike in the NFL, the individual MLB teams control the bulk of their TV rights. So, you can get wildly different levels of TV income between teams. In the NFL, everybody basically just gets an even share of the total pie.

Not apes. Think more legs. Lots more legs.

So, you acknowledge that your statement that “cabs aren’t allowed to charge different rates according to what day it is” was false? Got it. If you’re going to be snide, try to be accurate. Uninformed snark is not the best snark.

Really? How interesting. I hadn’t been aware that NYC taxis aren’t actually taxis.

Losing the engine? No problem (or at least minimal problem). As you note, the A380 can fly just fine on three (and even on two, I believe). Less efficient, so might not have the range, but not a safety concern.
