I’ve found it usually keeps them in the same spirit, but not necessarily the same mode. I’ll swap between “Get 5000 score in Team Slayer” to “Get 5000 score in Tactical Slayer”, or “Complete one game of Strongholds” to “Complete one game of Total Control”
