I get that as a fan of the original, but you can’t end a huge 40 hour RPG on... the end of a highway and just walking out of the city. There had to be some kind of big bad, and it makes sense that they have to establish Sephiroth as the true villain after Shinra goes down.

I didn’t level it up either in my playthrough either, I think it’s just because its requirements are so much higher than everything else. I can’t find the pure numbers, but I know arise takes 5000AP to level, but level 3 of an elemental is only 900.  

I do not have that reaction to Tonberries, it is always, “Aw fuck I’m gonna get rocked here.”

Definitely finish the game first. Bahamut isn’t really intended to be a first playthrough boss.

Leviathan you can get on your first playthrough, but I really don’t think you’re expected to get Bahamut in your first playthrough. You need to max all the magic materia to complete one of Chadleys items before you can get the Bahamut fight, and you get 3x AP gain after beating the game.

I’m pretty sure there’s a difference between difficulties as well. I did a couple of Colosseum battles on easy and it looked like it the summon bar appeared pretty much as soon as I staggered an enemy.  I haven’t tried hard yet, but it seemed to me that Easy difficulty was way more willing to get your summons into…

I felt that was by design.  You’re supposed to cycle through characters, get their ATB up, use it, then move on to another character while they’re executing whatever it was you selected.

You’ve got some pretty serious gymnastic chops yourself for putting that strawman together.  Yeesh.

Aside from the dungeon gimmicks (a tour de force in level design this game is not), most of the other stuff is hiding loading screens. Pretty blatantly, but I’d rather have my character slink through a tight space for a few seconds than cut to a load screen just to show up on the other side of some boxes.
