Irrelevant. The baseline requirement for being a server is courtesy. Before any other. It is discourteous, to roll your eyes and show any displeasure to a paying customer. Always.

I don’t think she has to be excited about a dollar tip, but a non-sarcastic “OK, thanks” or even asking the table, “Was there anything wrong with the service I provided?” is more appropriate than eye-rolling.

She did. 1 whole dollar. If she hadn’t been an asshole, she likely would have received more. For my money, she got off easy. Roll your eyes at my grandmother in front of me, I’ll happily make use of my ‘can I speak to your manager’ face.

I don’t get the whole problem. Grama wasn’t paying the whole bill was she? Her $1 tip was just an extra (embarassing) gesture. Right? So whoever paid the tab leaves a proper tip, gives a shrug and a smile to the waitress. Where is the problem?

Yeah, Caputo actually works as he is a fundamentally decent person who just happens to be really weak. I also disagree with the review as bringing him in here feels justified from the perspective of the show as he is basically the only person outside who cares enough to save those women from being pinned for the

I think Caputo is a really interesting character, especially after we got those flashbacks of him always trying to be a decent guy. It’s easy to judge him as a piece of garbage as a character on a TV show, but I think that in reality he is much closer to how the average person would handle these situations.

This is what happens when businesses do not allow staff to call in sick without being punished, or just don’t enough to let employees take off sick. Presenteeism is a public health issue.

No. You’re wrong. As a server, you are to be professional, courteous, and non-judgmental. At all times. It is the baseline you start from in service. Period.

4. told my wife and adult daughter that they should split a fried shrimp dinner because it was more than enough for both of them and then proceeded to order a full dinner for herself. Wife, daughter and I end up at applebees afterwards

“The waitress looked horrified and rolled her eyes, let out a very loud sigh, and walked off. This all happened before my wife and I could do anything to stop it.

I used to do this with my Dad. Then he and I have had some conversations about “Well Dad, long ago when I was a struggling waitress...” so I think he’s at least around 20% now. My Dad is really a great guy, but he was raised in fairly tough circumstances, and his sport or choice is financial minutia.

I feel so bad for Grandma. She was trying to be nice.

Literally a part of your job in a service industry is to be professional if not nice to customers, not to visibly show your distaste for them.

I can live with that.

Seriously.  If the server made the assumption that the nice old lady handing her a dollar proudly was her full tip, that’s on the server.  Fuck the server in this instance.

The assumption that the elderly or the differently abled need to tip extra to receive decent service is fucked up beyond belief. How about the hospitality industry treats them with the same respect they treat everyone else without expecting a fucking medal or a goddamn pay raise? Motherfuckers need to stop acting like

I have to agree. Even if you don’t know for sure that a customer has dementia, you can recognize when a person is elderly and may not understand how much they’re supposed to be tipping or how much a dollar is worth these days. There’s no excuse for showing visible disgust towards a customer over a tip.

My take - everyone messed up here except Grandma, who thinks it’s still 1973.

I have been a server for decades. Attitude = Unprofessional = She didn’t even earn the dollar. Who can’t tell when they’re dealing with a senior missing a marble or two? She should have been smiling and thankful to the old lady, while assuming the youngsters would make up the rest of the tip. Whatever the situation,

Okay when is the follow-up letter: “My wife is your typical ‘Can I speak to a manager’ bitch complete with Kate Goesselin hair of the 00s. It’s now embarrassing being in public with her what do I do?”
