I have already accepted that the proper M2 will edge out the 1M, although I was a little shocked how much of a step down in crazy the M235 was.

BTW, I actually prefer mine in black because:
I’m not really looking to get rid of mine (22K miles, minor cosmetic ding on the passenger side), but I also don’t want to watch it lose 30% of it’s value over the next year. It’s a fantastic car and the total cost of owning it, so far, has been unbeatable. Yeah I could have bought a Ford GT for way less 2.5 years…
Yeah, I don’t like telling the user “No, you can’t have control”, but at the same time I think that there are times that giving the user control is way more dangerous. Hard problem is hard.
Self-interested question: If you love the 1M, what would you pay for it now? Up until now they really haven’t dropped in price by much since they came out, low mileage ones still run over 50K. It’s still cool for it’s rarity but for the first time there is a direct replacement. Asking for a friend...
There is a time and a place for human intervention. We have learned from pilots and airplane systems that humans forcing themselves into situations at the wrong time actually increases risk.
I love reading these, I have an amazing amount of respect for the people doing this (and documenting for other!), and there is no chance in hell I wouldn’t just spend the extra money and buy the manual version.
Funny, my close friend went the opposite way, started in the cockpit of a C-17 and then got pulled onto drone duty a couple years in. He still did tours abroad, but not nearly as much. I know he misses being in the seat, but his wife and two little ones appreciate him being home a lot more!
I was going to go with “tadpole”
I don’t know why they even bother looking for him: I hear he’s a jurisprudence fetishist, so he’ll surely get off on a technicality.
Someplace, anyplace that isn’t strait, flat and covered in a mix of snow and salt 5 months a year.
We keep hearing about the accident reports for autonomous cars. Do we have any idea if the accident rates are any higher than human operated cars? It’s not that easy to compare, I’m sure a bunch of fender benders go unreported by humans every day, but I’d rather see these numbers relative to some baseline.
I’m not a battery engineer, but I think the big issue with scaling up batteries to car size is cooling. When you increase current the heat it generates is proportional to the square, which is going to catch up with your cooling system really fast as you increase the draw on the battery. You can make a bigger version…
Agreed, but the side shot at 3:30 of the video Steph posted where the edge suddenly gets REALLY close just made my stomach drop. Worth watching just for that little surprise.
Yeah, I’m not going to pass judgement until I see an NSX in person. I would note that when I’ve seen the i8 around there is always a cool combination of car people, tech people, and normal people who all just freak out seeing it. The at least SEEM to like the aesthetics. A collective form of porscheskatophillia,…
That seems like a much more interesting comparison. NSX is down on styling, but up in power. In truth, the software will probably make of break the NSX in comparison.
Counterpoint: banks like things that look like something they have seen before and behave predictably. Even if they predictably depreciate, they have seen many Mirages before and they know how they depreciate. They are not car people and have no idea how to figure out which 25 year old cars are worth $15,000 and which…
As someone who has been nearly hit as a pedestrian, I think you underestimate the value in this. No matter how alert and how well you follow the law, there is a chance that someone will hit you.
Waaaay late response: yes, the back seat is way more useful than in some similar 2+2 cars. I Have driven in the previous generation Mustang and the TT, and the old 1er/new 2er provide much more usable space thanks to a “knee nook” in the back of the front seat. I’m not saying you should put the center on your…
As someone who only has one place to park a car and likes to occasionally move more than two people at a time, can we please, please, PLEASE quit comparing 2 seaters to cars with a back seat?
