I just re-read the first few books. He has learned to read English by the time he meets Jane, but not to speak it. He learns French from D’Arnot when he goes to save him after he meets Jane. He doesn’t learn English until on the road with D’Arnot after the rest have been rescued. #TarzanNerd

My grandfather actually had a couple of beaten-up old hardcovers of the Burroughs’ novels which he gave to me long, long ago. TARZAN, LORD OF THE JUNGLE and TARZAN THE INVINCIBLE, as I recall.

Yes. That would be the absolute worst decision to make in the story. Key is the fact that he is butt ugly and I don’t see anyone referring to him as an “angel”. Perhaps his brother the sex maniac guy, Eros, but even that would be a major stretch.
