I think it's also because their budget is so tight. Making the effects for speedsters fighting probably gobbled up a lot of their budget so they are going to try and reuse it as much as possible…thus that show is going to be speedster heavy.

What a great point…by saying Eddie's last name (I think he referred to him as Det. Thawne) in front of the reverse Flash, he tipped him off that Thawne was a descendant or younger version. Thus saving Eddie from getting killed and creating a paradox.
