SNC is a short nosed crank. If those cars have a timing belt change and the crank bolt is not tightened back up to spec, it can loosen and cause a wobble in the crank that can quickly cause serious damage to the crank nose. Some people attempt to repair that with Loctite but if the damage is significant enough it can

If I would've had the money to have looked nationally at the time, there would have been more examples, sure, but I didn't. And buying something several hours away that is 20 years old is very risky. Driving around town is one thing, unfortunately driving on the highway is another. I even went a couple of hours out of

Well, of course I didn't know that, but that's just how 20 year old used cars are. Many are sold claiming to be well maintained. Few actually are. Even when they are, 20+ year old components are 20+ year old components. Hoses get old, rubber dries out. For $3,000 the car is usually either going to be high on miles

In the case of the NA, in many instances they are by now, unfortunately. Unless you're lucky enough to find one kept up by an equally OCD enthusiast, selling for a not-insane price, the NA's are getting to be hard to find in perfect shape. I settled for just finding a clean example that was stock and ended up

I don't think it's reliability of NA's and NB's keeping people from NC's. From the way people talk, it's the weight increase. The ND might do better since it's going through some weight loss. Heck, I'd consider one if I had the money for a new car. But I don't and I have the NA.

The new Chevy Bolt. Fastenating...

61-70% Not bad.

Exactly! I hope they go back to it. It's in the most recent Forza Horizon 2 car pack, which doesn't seem like something they'd do if it was a dead or changed concept, but who knows.

Yes, they have. I'm not sure if they were up or down back in September(?) when I heard it. Just a guess really. No matter the reason, I wish they'd go back to the iDx idea.

That's true, those are dwindling, aren't they? I guess they just don't like us.

Yes and no. Last I heard the focus from it being 510-inspired had been abandoned for something more Z-based if I remember right. Like a Z Jr. So, unfortunately yes basically. A victim of cheaper development and chasing FRS86OMGBBQ sales I guess.

Thankfully, I don't see much ridicule of zombie thread dredging on miata.net. It is annoying that the search tool doesn't work well and you have to be told to use google to search the site instead of the site search tool. I've considered helping them with their site wiki but just haven't had the free time to offer

I don't doubt that.

Ha! After a while you can almost predict how a thread is going to go on there. Still a great source for information. I'd be so lost without them. /brofist

So you spend a couple of days on the forums, and you learn all the ins and outs of the car you're considering, and eventually you head over to AutoTrader to find a good example. And this is where you learn: virtually every single car currently on the market is absolute crap.

Now, I don't mean to say that you can't consult the forums when you're thinking about a normal car. For example: believe it or not, there actually is a Toyota Highlander forum, and it's reasonably active. But the issues are more like: "Check out how funny my Golden Retriever looks in the driver seat of my Highlander!"

I totally agree. Never something I would have optioned in Florida, but since we got the car at the end of a bodystyle, when the dealer wanted them gone, it was included at no cost. And it really is great. Doesn't even have to be winter. Sometimes your back is just sore.

Right, but this is a VW, so if that light goes out, another light comes on telling me that a light is burned out. Redundant light just seems redundant.

Continuing to be the weenie Houdini. Can't find a harness that she can't escape. Yesterday we left her strapped into two of them and she had chewed herself half way through one of them by the time we came home for lunch. And that strap was thick like a seat belt!

I didn't really think of this the other day, but the DRL light in my VW is about the most useless light ever. It's not really an option, but worth noting. It basically tells me that my headlights are on but the rest of the lights are off, or in other words, the lights aren't on. All the time. I'm a stickler for
