“Are we going to have to sell the summer house in Malibu, daddy? No, the one with the playground, not the one with the ponies. Really, daddy”?

“Kabas also confirmed the de-escalator he hit was a 55-year-old woman who is currently charged with criminal mischief and unlawful assembly, while the de-escalator who sat in front of Kahane’s car has been charged with criminal mischief.”

Kahane is related to the dead terrorist Meir Kahane

Multiple states have created “stand your ground” laws regarding cars and protesters. Whether they are constitutional or not, these laws have been passed ajd the message is “violence is an option” for the right wing if they don’t like what they see.

Exactly what US Senator Tom Cotton called for last month. Physical violence against kids marching and protesting.

That’s not second-degree assault: that’s attempted murder.

The fact that the commanding officer said that is the exact reason why protests need de-escalators in them. It is so sad that the people taking tax-payer money to de-escalate situations are often the ones antagonizing peaceful protesters.

When it is cozying up to power, it isn’t political.

Glad you mentioned this. And not only in a coma with a TBI, but multiple fractures to both legs and her pelvis.

Wish more local authorities were proactive in stopping illegal motorized vehicles on pedestrian/bicycle paths.

Good! In a perfect world the rider would be dead, but you take what you can get.

Mmmm not even close. On one track you have potential families and people not breaking the law... on the other you have this shit stain who could care less about anyone other than themselves having fun. Fuck this guy he got exactly what he was looking for.

Nah, bro. There are times when the cops should be skewered for their actions.

You watch the tape and that self-centered jackass is really booking down the path. If he struck a pedestrian from behind at that speed, that person would be at least as injured as jackass ended up but he wouldn’t be scathed much due to the ATV taking most of the impact.

Agreed. Bad take on Jalopnik’s part to suggest that the ATV driver running through a bunch of cyclists and pedestrians was the more desirable outcome than hitting a stopped police car. This isn’t exactly the trolley problem, because one of the outcomes is measurably worse than the other.

I am failing to see how the cop did not do *exactly* the right thing here. If moron was going too fast to stop in time to not hit a very plainly visible cop car, he was going too fast to not hit a pedestrian. Not like he came around a blind corner and there was the cop.

Two parties in the wrong you say?

A lot of ATV and dirt bikers illegally ride on hiking/biking singletrack trails in my area. And I hope every single one of these bastards suffer the same fate, whether it’s caused by cops or not.

If you were going too fast to avoid a stopped car, you were going too fast to avoid a pedestrian. I’m good with this one.
