Colonialism simulators are a huge genre in board games. Many board games are power fantasy where you control colonies or nations and many allow you to run them in very problematic ways.

Seems like the entire point of the game was obviously to comment on colonialism right? And by using these mechanics one could shed light on the nature of imperial projects, the often raw economic logic behind these projects and the calculus of the underlying systems. Right?

It really doesn’t seem to me to be anything more than an extrapolation of the mind games Sephiroth was playing on Cloud throughout the first half of the original game.

Since we’re getting lazy here, the poverty the article talks about is “fuel” poverty in context of last year’s winter autumn, which is probably related, by some amount, to Russia’s war in Ukraine. While that’s definitely a form of poverty, the way this article uses it in the general sense is a bit shifty, at minimum.

I’d still like to point out that the Crown Estate (technically King Charles’s property though not privately owned) generates around 300 million pounds in income.
