Though perhaps I underestimate how universal this is.  I recall someone, perhaps on this site I’m not sure, posting that many indiscretions were forgiven when they were in Japan but they were almost kicked out of their class for closing a door with their shoe.

Most of these read less like a difference in cultural norms, and more like straight-up nationalism.
