Not to get too far into minutiae here, but Nickelodeon was on-board to make TJM even after the original movie underperformed. Problem was, Nick would only do it if Bartlett signed an exclusive contract with them, while Bartlett was already working on a pilot at Cartoon Network, and didn't want that to fall through.

Frankly, its plot was more realistic than either of the movies that came after.
I think Quantum will be rehabbed in the long term. It's hard to get a bead on it, and there are flaws, but I think it's a better movie than anyone really admits.
