Good for him. He has a really healthy attitude about growth.

My read on the exchange is less “is this blackmail?”, as I think his intent was pretty clearly to convey the coercive message “pay me or I will put out videos saying your game sucks,” and more “did he mask the language carefully enough to just barely squeak under the line?” (For what it’s worth, I am a lawyer,

SU&SD is my favorite of the Board Game reviewers out there, they take the time to learn the game and play it a bunch with multiple groups of gaming friends and then give you the good and the bad. Sometimes they recommend, sometimes they do not.

I’d say, its a bad tactic to get a deal from the publisher at a minimum, but I don’t know if I’d call this specific case blackmail. At worst, its just a very bad attempt at leveraging a deal. One that smacks at the YouTubers own credibility as professional boardgamers. They aren’t outright lying, but they are using

To me, it looks like inexperience combined with just faulty and unrefined tactics for leveraging a deal. Essentially, its not a good look. Though, if we’re talking YouTube creators, its also not far off from what’s to be expected. Even though we all know it should be better than that. That’s just how ‘public content

If you’re covering a game and getting directly paid for it, you’re not “creating content”, you’re making an ad. Even if it’s just an unboxing or a playthrough, that’s an ad.

To me those emails by Quackalope don’t seem like they come from a ‘sweet person’s, but more from a very bad sales rep.

I’m absolutely not their intended demographic, as I don’t play board games really at all, and yet I find their videos delightful, funny, and interesting.

For anyone interested in a Youtube channel that reviews board games without this kind of weird drama going on, I heartily recommend: Shut Up & Sit Down.

The kickstarter side of the hobby just looks like influencer culture and FOMO dialed up to 11.

I dont see a problem with them saying that coverage needs to be positive. They arent considering a business deal with this guy to pay him for a review. the yare considering it as an advertisement investment. Would you pay for an ad that shows your product in a negative light? Probably not. All of this is clear from

I can think of at least 3 candidates who’ve dropped out who would be perfect as Jerry.

I’d watch at least one episode of live-action Rick & Morty with Rick played by Bernie and Morty played by Pete Buttigieg.

Hey, assuming that’s how the game is actually gonna play, that looks pretty great.

think of what it could be ported too now

sounds like someone is editing personal levels on company time... or maybe you are only doing it while pooping for 30 mins?

So...Chris, you typically write about one article every two days, and lately it has been almost exclusively about MM2 or...promoting your own levels. What makes you news worthy enough? What do you even do for Kotaku except promote yourself or fixate on Nintendo?

Feige as the Varys of the Disney hierarchy makes perfect sense.

“...actually decided to bring Gunn back several months ago...”

Somewhere, a Disney exec sat weeping, having tasted more of life than he was capable of handling. Sure, it SEEMED like hunting a man for sport would be the ultimate fulfillment of what it meant to be a God amongst mere mortals, but after the deed was done, he felt only regret and shame. “Oh how I wish I could
