It was a mix of both; Kirby & Lee were originally going to call him Coal Tiger but eventually settled on Black Panther. I put Black Panther in the same naming convention as Red Tornado, Blue Beetle, Silver Surfer, Black Widow etc. i.e. more a description of their costumed appearance as opposed to ethnic background.

Now that you mention it, I can't believe I missed the similarities. My goodness, was there anyone Lucas wasn't "influenced" by. The list keeps growing.

Agreed, but that's what comicbookmovie adaptations are for; streamline and simplify the (convoluted-multiple-decade-spanning) storylines into a more coherent form while staying true to the core theme. If Young Justice could introduce these strapping fellas

Oh for the love of everything good DC!!! You've got the rad awesomeness that is Kirby's Old Gods/New Genesis and you gonna settle for Legion of Superheroes???

I see what you did there. Well played Argh... Well played

Eh, just cast Guy Pierce and we can call it a day. Tom Hardy was always a weird choice (Bane and all).

Man, that's such a copout "over explaining" excuse about the large number of characters in AoU / BvS. By that logic Oceans 11, LOTR, The Life Aquatic, Freaking X-Men and a host of other movies are cinematic anomalies.

Hey now.. A man can dream. A DC movie influenced by Morrison's work would be excellent; more grandiose and whimsical in tone as opposed to the muted, grounded approach WB/DC seem stuck on.

True! But with the alternative that is Goyer... One can only hope.

Good!!! Now if Grant Morrison hurries the heck up with his Wonder Woman: Earth One so Chris Terrio (Argo, BvS) adapts it for the Wonder Woman movie, I'll be one happy fanboy.

Isn't that a good thing, we get to explore the rest of DC universe without worrying about those big two hijacking whatever show they appear in. I mean, isn't the complaint that DC is always focusing on Batman & Superman to the detriment of other classic DC heroes. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Good grief.

"DEAR GOD. You are witnessing, my friends, a panicked, existential crisis of the middle class white woman."

Color me excited. DCCU is shaping up nicely. On the other hand, watch Cyborg and Wonder Woman get a movie before Black Panther and Captain Marvel.

Hilarious!!! Bonus points for the Damion Poitier (Thanos) cameo.

Kaldur - Young Justice Season 2.

From ridiculous hyper-masculine parody/pastiche to played straight anti-villian spawning his own imitators.

"She joins several other actors of color who have been cast in the reboot, including Lupita Nyong'o, John Boyega and Pip Anderson"

I believe you mean Crystal Clarke not Pip Andersen, Pip Andersen is the white fellow.

Nah, it's a well done manip that showed up after the first Man of Steel trailer debuted.

*shrug* To each his own. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment ;)

When Superman lost his "trunks". Sigmund Freud would have had a field day at the outrage surrounding a grown man's undies.
