You’re taking me BACK! My brothers use to listen to that back in the day. I remember how important Public Enemy was back then. Their militant image was such a stark contrast to the dookie-gold-chains-and-jumpsuit look that was prevalent in hiphop at the time.

I can think of one which, despite my negative feelings towards their juvenile brand of misogyny, were quite culturally important——2 Live Crew. These guys were the champions of fair use, free speech and the reason why racist “decency” laws were finally addressed.
