In 1993, if somebody threw a beer bottle at a Phillies player there’s a good chance they were asked to, because the dugout keg was empty.

My girlfriend tells me the correct color is actually "salmon".

It really is quite sad; it wasn’t long ago that righties were afraid to throw anything at Howard.

I will never be a Clinton fan and I voted for Bernie in the state primary. That said, Bernie,

Why not the next “Good Hands” guy for Allstate?

The best part is someone clearly took the time to figure out how long the string had to be to maximize ball contact. Damn premeditation and shit.

It would be 6 and 3/4ths undefeated seasons for the Phillies to get back to .500 for their history. Wowza that’s a lot of years of terrible baseball.

It’s not quite that dire, although it’s dire enough. From whenever Baseball Reference last updated the Phillies are 1124 games under .500 as a franchise. Which is about 6.9 full seasons of going undefeated to get back to .500.

lol, it’s not quite that bad.

In order to require 50 undefeated seasons to reach .500, they’d have to have lost 8,100 more games than they’ve won. Their all-time record is 9,163-10,253.

You made me curious, so I looked it up. They’re 1,090 games under .500. So it would only take 7 undefeated seasons to reach .500. It would, however, take 50 years of averaging 92 wins a season to get there. And they’ve only had 92 wins or more nine times in their history.

Six seasons. They would cross .500 in the seventh undefeated season. But, sure, that’s practically 50 or 75 years.

After the 2008 Series win, AJ Daulerio (former boss of this site and “Ambler Man”) allegedly leaned out of his NYC window and screamed “WORLD CHAMPIONS” every morning for a year.

That’s my favorite trivia question to ask acquaintances: Which major pro sports team has won the most championships in Philadelphia?

Just looked it up, and they are 9553-10677 since their founding in 1883. If they win out this year and then have six perfect seasons, they could reach .500 by opening the 2023 season with 43 wins.

Quick Google says they are 9553-10676, so 1123 games under .500. That's just under 7 perfect seasons, and a bit more than 11 straight 100-win seasons.

Not very hard to fact check - they’re 1,124 games under .500 so it’d take less than 7 years. Still a lot.

According to Wikipedia, the Phils are 9,464-10,552, or 1088 games under .500. That would be almost 7 162-game seasons.

Nah, they’re just 1,123 games below .500. Go undefeated and they’d get there in a shade under 7 seasons.

The end of an era, in more ways than one.
