Russia has historical claims on Crimea, as does Ukraine. Their means of seizing it were violations of international law for sure, but they have somewhat valid claims. Crimea is highly Russified (thanks Stalin), but was given to Ukraine by Khruschev during the de-Stalinization process.

And a fundamental human right is the right to choice, whether that be to dress modestly or immodestly, to practice religion strictly or loosely, or not at all.

Well Russia in Syria is kind of imperial, but Ukraine is a territorial dispute at best.

Alternative take: Political parties should operate on a European model where A) they’re actually political parties (IE you have to become a member) and B) there are a lot of them.
