Or, from a ‘glass-half-full’ viewpoint, Colquitt is having a Peter Norman moment: I support these men, but this is not about me.

I think people can legit feel differently about various forms of activism, and in this case, have legit different relationships with the national anthem. And there’s value in acknowledging and supporting a cause even if they don’t choose to engage in that form of protest.
i just think they are tryin to show support but not kneeling which they may not be comfortable with in respect to the anthem and the flag. im not saying for myself kneelin is disrespectful, but they may feel that way but still want to show support.
I mean, we’re seeing that with Heather Heyer’s death. So many White people *now* seem to understand what the hell Black people been ringing the alarm about for yearrrrssss (decadesssss) in the wake of her murder.
I’m ok with them standing next to them with a hand on the shoulder. I’m actually more ok with that than someone kneeling with them not truly committed to the cause. Nothing wrong with this picture in my eyes.
This is everything! Thank you for taking the time to write this and offer a window into your personal space. Sadly, though WE didn’t need a White man to validate this movement, White allies have been (and continue to be) detrimental to our movements.
